Hi, I’m Karen

It’s not about me, it’s about you; what you want, how you want to be and what’s stopping you from having, being or doing that.  However, I also know that you will want to know whether I am the right person to help you.  So here’s a bit about me.

I’m told I bring a special energy and people describe me as likeable, enthusiastic, funny and kind.  I certainly care.  I hate the idea of people feeling crushed by stress or sadness and I love to laugh and see no point in making things miserable and boring if they can be just as effective when fun.  I am however quite prepared to go to those dark places if need be but in a way that does not cause extra stress or reinforce old trauma.   I believe that life is a gift and we should squeeze the juice out of it!

I’m married with two children (started late due to having too much fun) and I love the sea.

Practise, practise, practise … the younger me thought my career would be over if I made a mistake live.  In my mind, anything less than perfection was evidence that I was kidding myself in thinking I could be a professional musician and I wanted that more than anything.  As the stakes grew higher and so did my anxiety.  That tension affected my perception of my performance and the negative feedback loop was formed.

If only I knew then what I know now!

I look happy and relaxed don’t I?

I wasn’t.  I was driven by perfectionism and the fear that I wasn’t good enough.  There was no partying for me; I was too busy trying to nail that ‘tricky’ fill.

Whilst driving to a gig where some famous musicians were going to be watching me, I was so scared of making a fool of myself that I honestly felt like I’d rather be dead – and yet this was my dream!

I had spent the day dreading the gig and do you know what?  The worst never happened – I played really well in the end.  Isn’t it funny how we can do more than we think we can?  It was not a repeat of my childhood “Minuet in G” piano recital which I laughingly call my “Minuet in F” moment!  In the end, all that worrying was unfounded.  Such a waste of time, let alone the toll all the stress was taking on my health.

And yet now I don’t notice any anxiety at all about performing, other people’s judgement or showing my true self.

If you are finding it hard to play the part you want to play in life, then please get in touch to find out how I can share what I’ve learned to help you too.

In my decade-plus experience as a Coach and Therapist, I have found that most of my clients were anxious, felt that they couldn’t cope and were not good enough.  This belief seemed to run through them all, from housewives, professional performers to multi-millionaire business owners.  It seemed bizarre that even successful people weren’t able to enjoy their success for fear of losing it all and talented people were playing small.  This really struck a chord with me because I used to feel that way myself and I want to help people get the results and peace of mind they are craving.  My skill is recognising your unique gifts and holding a mirror up so you can see them too!

“The first thing one notices when meeting Karen is her seemingly indomitable smile, enthusiasm and such positive energy.  No matter how I may be feeling when I go into a session, I can be confident that I will be feeling calm, refreshed and at peace by the time I leave.

Karen is a great listener, brilliant coach and a consummate professional.  Her wisdom, combined with the breadth of her experience and knowledge, has helped me quite quckly sort out a number of issues that nagged and troubled me over many years.

Karen has a gift and if you have any reason or need to speak with her, just take up her offer of one introductory chat.  You will not look back.

Thank you Karen, you’re amazing!”

Background

The joy of being a bit older is that I have had plenty of time to fit lots of stuff in.  I’ve worked in various roles such as a personal fitness trainer, a drummer in a heavy metal band (think Animal from The Muppets), had a long spell in corporate (don’t start me off on the delights of an engineering thermoplastic) and brought up two children whilst building my coaching and therapy practice.  It hasn’t all been an easy ride though.  At the age of 32 I had a life-saving operation after 6 years of illness and between my two children, I had 7 miscarriages.  So I’ve lived a life and experienced highs and lows and consequently have a good appreciation of the challenges in different walks of life.

Training

In 2008 I qualified as a Cognitive Hypnotherapist with The Quest Institute, after studying with the world-renowned trainer and author Trevor Silvester.

Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy provides a framework to contain lots of approaches and also covers NLP, EFT, EMI+ and Coaching and so gives an excellent foundation to help with a variety of issues.

In 2019 I qualified as a Certified Clarity Coach with International Coach and Trainer and Sunday Times best selling author Jamie Smart from The Clarity Academy.  This was a game changer and allowed me to help people not just perform at their best but to really have a sense of peace and freedom from limitations.  As one of my clients said “it’s life changing!”

I’ve since continued to train and be coached by world leaders in transformational coaching and therapy because I am committed to learning and improving the service I offer to help my clients get the best results possible.
